How Sugar & Bloom Began

Lily Chen started piping buttercream roses in her apartment kitchen while studying graphic design at Fort Lewis College. By junior year, her Instagram had more followers than the college's official account, and her custom cakes had a three-week waitlist.

She opened Sugar & Bloom in 2019 on Main Ave with one display case, a KitchenAid mixer, and the belief that every dessert should be as beautiful as it is delicious. Within six months, she upgraded to a commercial kitchen and hired her first decorator.
