The Reyes family moved to Durango from Oaxaca in 2005. Matriarch Rosa Reyes cooked for friends out of her home kitchen for years before her son Miguel convinced her that Durango needed a real Mexican restaurant — not Tex-Mex, not fusion, but the food she grew up making.
La Casa del Sol opened in 2015 with Rosa in the kitchen, Miguel managing the front, and his sister Elena running the bar. Ten years later, the family still runs every shift together.
